The Story of The Squire
From the beginning
Squire Cigars originated in February 1974 as The Pipe Squire in Santa Rosa, CA. The first location was at the Historic Belvedere House on Mendocino Avenue in Santa Rosa, California. Moving closer to the hub of Sonoma County they relocated to Old Courthouse Square, downtown. After two years Barney and Linda Squires took the big jump and opened a shop in Coddingtown Center.
In 2000 they moved the store to their current location at 1305 Cleveland Avenue which afforded them room enough for a lounge and retail operation. They are in their 21st year at Vineyard Square, home of D'Argenzio Winery, Fog Belt Brewing Company, and several eateries. The center is now a mecca for rest and relaxation - complete with a barbershop. The Squire will celebrate their 50th anniversary in February 2024.
What began as a very small business in a 300-foot space, they have grown to be one of the most recognized shops in the industry.
